
RECOGNITION OF THE CONTINUOUS AND INNOVATIVE ADVANCEMENT OF DESALINATION AND WATER REUSE TECHNOLOGIES
At the 14th International Congress held in Tenerife from 24 to 26 June 2025, the efforts of the most outstanding individuals, organisations and companies working in our sector were once again recognised. This led to the 2nd EDITION OF THE AEDyR INTERNATIONAL AWARDS, which was divided into five (5) categories.
The AWARDS recognise the most outstanding projects, research, leaders and companies that, through their individual or collective efforts, add value to the continuous and innovative advancement of the integration of Desalination and Effluent Reuse Treatment Technologies, with a view to ensuring access to and efficient use of water resources.

TAWEELAH, presented by COX WATER
The Taweelah 200 MIGD desalination plant is the largest reverse osmosis facility in operation, notable for its low specific net energy consumption of 2.81 kWh/m³ on average. This efficiency is achieved despite challenging seawater characteristics, producing high-quality water through optimized design, high-efficiency equipment, and renewable energy.

DuPont global network of technical experts, benefiting from 40+ years of product and application expertise, helps design efficient desalination solutions for a wide range of applications and industries. DuPont continues to be the exclusive manufacturer of dry SWRO membranes, allowing for easier handling and transport due to a significant reduction.

SURPHASE
Surphase revolutionizes fouling management and cleaning in desalination plants. By integrating nanometric sensitivity sensors with predictive algorithms, we set a new standard for detection and control. Direct data empowers smarter decisions, optimizing processes, cutting operational costs, and reducing environmental impact.
HONOURABLE MENTION
DESALRO 2,0 – ITC CANARIAS
DESALRO 2.0 is already on the market; this design has promoted projects and works worth over €15 million. Key benefits include reduced carbon footprint and lower water production costs. The system is compact, mobile, and easy to install, with high scalability (between 1,000 and 10,000 m3/d). Reduced OPEX (estimated annual savings of €33,000).

Our new APP pump with ceramic components improves robustness and wear resistance, increases maximum pressure, and eliminates the need for pre-filtration, helping to minimize OPEX. This innovation delivers an extremely versatile technology that enables the construction of the most efficient plants on the market, both in desalination and water reuse

Sacyr Agua’s commitment to sustainability is demonstrated by our actions but also backed by numerous international accreditations and awards. We will present a multitude of examples and among others, we are the first large corporation to have calculated and certified its water footprint demonstrating that we are Water Positive.

AQUALIA
The MARadentro project is presented as a sustainable alternative for the reuse of reclaimed water in aquifer recharge, with the aim of improving both the quality and quantity of groundwater. It is a low-cost technology with a significant positive impact on the environment..

ACUAMED
The research applies Cooperative Game Theory to assess collaboration among users of overexploited aquifers for their recovery, integrating desalination into the water management system. The results show that an adequate allocation of desalination costs benefits the users of the water system.
COMUNICATION
WINNER
Asociación Chilena de Desalación y Reúso (ACADES)
The ACADES 2024 Congress, which thanks to the communication campaign became a brand and a milestone for Chile, helped highlight the urgent need for new solutions to address the mega-drought. It generated a total of 341 publications, reaching an audience of 20 million people and gaining over a thousand new followers.

ACCIONA
ACCIONA launches a campaign for World Water Day to promote responsible use and highlight desalination as a solution to water scarcity. With the slogan “Would you shower with seawater?” and the challenge “3-minute shower,” it encourages individual actions through games, comics, and social media to raise awareness.
